Periodically, someone here will place some random thoughts about life, politics, and anything else that comes to mind!
Solar Stik™ announces it's new partnership with the city of Falls Church, Virginia and its sister city, Kokolopori in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa.

Solar Stik™ is donating a complete system to be delivered in 2009 as part of a joint effort to provide the village with a modern medical facility.
Additional details are available below:
The Kokolopori-Falls Church Sister City Partnership (http://www.kokolopori-partnership.org) is within a few dollars of a goal to bring solar power -- and possibly also the internet -- to the Kokolopori region! Because our Sister City, Kokolopori, is in a very remote region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, it is completely isolated from the world. Internet access will open up a world of opportunities for their citizens, and the educational enrichment afforded their children and our own simply can’t be over-stated. We can envision Kokolopori students and citizens communicating via email with our own small town and schools!
The achievement is being made possible, in part, through a generous donation from Solar Stik and its CEO and Falls Church City resident Al Zaccor (www.solarstik.com) who will provide a powerful portable solar generator to the Partnership. KFCSCP is also applying for a $10,000 grant from The Internet Society (www.isoc.org) which would provide funding for a satellite internet connection. In addition to providing power for the computer, the solar panels will also power LED lighting that will allow the local doctor to perform emergency surgeries and deliveries at night instead of by flashlight. Thanks to Mr. Zaccor’s donation, and a significant grant from Family Medicine in Falls Church (www.fmifc.com), the Partnership needs to obtain only $1000 more by October 5 to be eligible to apply for the matching grant from the Internet Society.

To make a pledge or donation of any size, please email info@kokolopori-partnership.org or call Maryll Kleibrink at 703-534-4003.
