Wearable Advanced Soldier Power (WASP) Systems are complete power systems that provide power generation, energy storage, and power management in one small, wearable kit. WASP systems enable the soldier or adventurer to consolidate multiple electrical devices into one closed-loop circuit, eliminating the need to carry multiple battery types and spares. As a highly portable, independent power system, the WASP can be scaled to support up to 200 W continuous loads. These systems also allow for “opportunity charging” from sources as diverse as solar, fuel cell, vehicular, or grid AC power.

Hybrid Power Systems (HPSs) use energy storage modules (ESMs) at the heart of their architecture, which allow multiple power generation sources to support the load. HPSs prioritize harvesting energy from renewable sources over traditional sources such as fuel-driven generation to make system operation as efficient as possible. The open architecture and modular design of the HPS allows addition, subtraction, or substitution of each component in the system to tailor it specifically to any application. The systems in this section are successful, fielded variations of the Solar Stik HPS design theme and cover a wide spectrum of power requirements.

LiFePO4 Energy Storage Modules (ESMs) can endure more charge/discharge cycles than other battery chemistries. Solar Stik uses the LiFePO4 chemistry in all its lithium-chemistry ESM products. LiFePO4 is slightly less powerful than other commercially available lithium chemistries, but it has the great advantage of using a nonflammable electrolyte, providing equivalent safety characteristics to lead-acid batteries.

Lead-acid Energy Storage Modules (ESMs) are the most widely understood and used 12 V batteries. Solar Stik Lead-acid ESMs use absorbed glass mat (AGM) sealed lead-acid technology. Lead-acid ESMs are housed in rugged cases and will not leak if inverted, pierced, or otherwise compromised.

Solar Stik’s Portable Remote Operation Inverter/Charger (PRO-Verter) provides a single point of power management, control, and distribution to a portable, battery-based, electrical circuit. The PRO-Verter supplies power to the load by drawing directly from the batteries in the system while simultaneously receiving power input from a fuel-powered generator (optional) or from DC power generation sources to charge the batteries.

The Power Distribution Module (PDM) is a power distribution system that provides energy for USB, CLA and terminal-post devices. The primary role of the generator in a Solar Stik Hybrid System is to charge the batteries when required. Solar Stik power management components monitor the amount of energy in the battery bank—the components automatically signal the generator to start when the battery bank voltage reaches the system-defined threshold, and automatically signal the generator to stop when the battery bank is fully charged. Most generators—military, commercial, and residential—can be modified to use a Solar Stik RsEK.
